'Typically,
stable molecules contain pairs of electrons. When a chemical
reaction breaks the bonds that hold paired
electrons together, free radicals are produced, Free radicals
contain an odd number of electrons, which make them unstable,
short-lived and highly reactive, As they combine with other
atoms that contain unpaired electrons, new radicals are
created, and a chain reaction begins. This process is essential
for the decomposition of many different substances at high
temperatures.'
(Britannica Concise definition)
Christil
Trumpet recognise the behavious of free radicals in the
breakdown of healthy cells - a metaphor for the destructive
elements of human behaviour on the environment and towards
each
other.
Using this metaphor we are creating a shoal of 'tropical
fish' which will comprise of anarchic individuals bent
on corrupting their environment. Their personalities will
be described thorugh drawings and non-organic matter, such
as pharmaceutical waste and package holiday brochures -
which are indicative of mass tourism and global pollution.
Free Radicals is a work in progress - 2005. |
